OKEMOS, Mich. -- Renaissance Life and Health Insurance Company of America (Renaissance America) has named Thomas Colgan as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Colgan is responsible for the overall administration and operation of Renaissance America, including the performance of all product lines.

As COO, Colgan plans to build Renaissance America into a market leader in the ancillary benefit industry, focusing on increasing business in its group and individual dental insurance business, as well as its vision, life and disability lines.

Colgan is bringing his nearly 30 years of experience in business growth to Renaissance America, including an impressive entrepreneurial background. Among his career highlights is having been one of four founders of the Health Network Systems (HNS), which created a national provider file. He was also one of four founders of Resource Information Management Systems (RIMS), one of the first companies to offer claims administration software to insurance companies. The company became the nation’s leading developer of claims administration software. RIMS was recognized as one of Inc. Magazine’s top 500 fastest growing, privately held companies in 1986 and 1987.

Colgan received his bachelor's degree in nuclear science from the State University of New York/Maritime College. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine as Third Assistant Engineer Officer and upon completion of service, he rose to the rank of Lt. Commander.
