OKEMOS, Mich., (May 16, 2007) — Renaissance Health Service Corporation (RHSC), a not-for-profit organization that specializes in affordable health care, dental benefits and employee benefit management services, recently donated $4,000 to the Mission Children’s Dental Program, located at Mission Children’s Hospital in Asheville, N.C.

“Experience proves that when children are exposed to good oral care early in life, they will carry those good habits into adulthood,” said Monica Teutsch, director of Mission Children’s Dental Program. “The contribution we received from Renaissance will help support ToothBus operations so that we can give uninsured children in our region, most who never have visited a dentist, healthy mouths and the tools they need to establish good oral health habits."

The Mission Children’s Dental Program is dedicated to bringing preventive and restorative dental care to children in seven North Carolina counties, including Avery, Madison, McDowell, Polk, Transylvania, Swain and Rutherford, where there are no health department dental clinics. The donation will be used to support the operation of the ToothBus, a 40-foot custom mobile dental office complete with two fully-equipped dental clinics, which offer care to low-income children with limited access to dental resources. The buses target children in grades one through five. To date, the Mission Children’s Hospital Dental Program has restored health to more than 5,000 children; influenced changes made to the North Carolina Dental Practice Act; and involved the medical community in the education of proper dental care in young children.

“The effort Mission Children’s Hospital has put forth to educate young children and their parents about the importance of good dental health is remarkable,” said Philip Wenk, D.D.S., executive vice president of RHSC. “The organization and its community partners are to be commended for their fine work promoting oral health throughout the region.
